What to expect from your massage at Cranfield Uni

Your Guide to a Relaxing Massage at the Cranfield Fitness Centre

Feeling the pressure of deadlines, long hours at work, or post-workout soreness? A massage is more than a luxury; it's a powerful tool to help you reset, recover, and refocus.

If you're considering booking a session with us, we want you to feel completely comfortable and informed. Here’s a step-by-step guide on what to expect when you visit for a massage.

1. Before You Arrive

  • Booking is Easy: Secure your spot by booking online through the Services Offered page.
  • What to Wear: Just wear comfortable, everyday clothing. You don’t need to be in sportswear.
  • Arrive on Time: We recommend arriving 5-10 minutes before your scheduled appointment. This gives you a moment to unwind and complete any necessary paperwork without feeling rushed.

2. Your Arrival and Consultation

Upon arrival, please check in at the main Fitness Centre reception. Your qualified massage therapist will then greet you and take you to a private, calming treatment room.

The first and most important step is a confidential consultation. Your therapist will chat with you about:

  • Any specific areas of tension, aches, or pains.
  • Your goals for the session (e.g., relaxation, muscle recovery, headache relief).
  • Any relevant health conditions or injuries.
  • Your preference for pressure (light, medium, or firm).

This conversation is entirely confidential and ensures your massage is tailored perfectly to your individual needs.

3. During Your Massage

  • Your Privacy is Our Priority: The therapist will leave the room while you undress to your level of comfort and lie on the massage table, covering yourself with the clean towels provided. They will knock before re-entering. Throughout the session, you will be professionally draped, with only the area being worked on uncovered.
  • Communication is Key: Your comfort is everything. If the pressure is too firm or too light, or if you feel cold, please let your therapist know. They can adjust their technique or provide an extra blanket.
  • Relax and Switch Off: You don’t need to make conversation. This is your time to quiet your mind and let the tension go. Many people fall asleep, and that's perfectly fine!

4. After Your Session

When the massage is over, the therapist will leave the room again, allowing you to get up at your own pace and get dressed in private.

Your therapist will then offer you a glass of water and may suggest some simple aftercare, such as gentle stretches or continuing to hydrate, to maximise the benefits of the treatment. You can expect to leave feeling physically looser, mentally calmer, and ready to tackle your next challenge.

A massage at the Cranfield Fitness Centre is your on-campus escape to unwind your mind and power your research.
